Best approach for healthy diet is from food intake – vegetables, fruits, legumes etc. They are packed in the nutrition you need, so you really don’t need to take extra supplements. But the problem is, many people count on taking nutrition from supplements, not from food.

Taking the vitamins and minerals to your diet at the right amount can help improve health and reduce the risk of deficiency. However, we all have different diets, lifestyles, and health issues. We don’t need the same amount of vitamins in the diet. 

How do we know the right amount for you? The best way is to consult with your doctor or registered dietitian before taking supplements. If you’re already taking vitamin supplements, ask them if it’s good to continue or not.

People start paying attention to overall health and its trend pushed the regular intake. Vitamin manufacturers got along with the trend and keep telling us taking a multivitamin supplement is a good thing. We are all brainstormed that and following its claim.

Taking multivitamins doesn’t guarantee that you won’t get sick. In fact, you still get sick despite the fact you take multivitamins. Dietary supplements can’t take the place of a well-balanced diet. So why do we take them?

Besides, most multivitamins are poorly formulated with your diet in mind. They aren’t be packed full of B vitamins, beta-carotene, and vitamin C. You might take enough vitamins through food already.

So why do you waste your money on something ineffective to your health?

In 2010 only, Americans spent $28 billion on nutritional supplements. Specifically, $11 billion on multivitamin supplements only.

Daily vitamin supplementation hasn’t been proven to give you health benefits. How can you justify such an expenditure for something in vain?

A healthy diet is a whole package of vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, fat, and fiber. You can consume the necessary nutrition from a healthy diet without taking multi-vitamins.

Most of the over-the-counter multivitamins in the US provide 100% (and often more) of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA). You can overdose vitamins if you eat well and take vitamins.

When you get vitamins and minerals from food, it’s hard to overtake them. However, supplements are so easy to take. By taking a pill or 2, you’ll quickly exceed your needs.

Some vitamins are fat-soluble and are stored in our bodies. If we save too much of these vitamins can be toxic.



What happens if we stop taking vitamins?

Vitamins are not drugs. There are no withdrawal symptoms associated with the termination of use.

Sickness and exhaustion could be possible side effects if your body is used to the additional vitamin intake. But fatigue isn’t caused by supplements mostly. Many conditions cause fatigue — heart disease, cancer, depression.
Also aging: we lose muscle to do the work, so even routine activity gets more tiring.

Vitamins and minerals can largely be maintained by a healthy balanced diet, enough sleep, and regular exercise. Stop taking vitamins shouldn’t be the issue.
